Sokoban updates

A long time ago, I started developing my own 3D game engine. It now features dynamic lighting, dynamic shadows, animation, spatial partitioning, 3DS model support and much more.

To try my engine, I started implementing Sokoban3D in it. I don't know if I will ever finish it, but the current development build has got the most basic features implemented already

I might release the source code of both the new Sokoban3D and my engine codenamed Helix Engine in the near future. It is a huge improvement over the old code. The new code is much more object oriented, and therefore has got a lot more structure and abstraction. Furthermore, all the Sokoban parts are now loaded from 3DS files, so the new version is easily skinned.

What I find really amazing is all the e-mails I still get. Frankie Kam from Malaysia even made a SpongeBob skin for Sokoban3D. You can download it here. I am glad that many people still play my clone. This is a real motivation to continue my new version. Thanks guys, you rock!

Sokoban anniversary and...

About a year ago I started working on the project now known as Sokoban 3D. It turned out to be a huge succes: Sokoban 3D has been downloaded over 6000 times!

To celebrate this, I've put a pre-release online of Sokoban 3D 1.3. This version has got some new features like support for the .lp0 format and comes in the following languages:

Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Slovak, Swedish and Turkish.

Sokoban 3D 1.2
is released! This version makes Sokoban much more user-friendly.

The changes are:

  • Improved graphics and added graphics in menu
  • An external configurator
  • Fog effect in menu
  • Improved level completed effect
  • Really improved the particle effect when two crates hit eachother
  • Made a language interface, you can now create your own language pack in a simple way!
  • Now comes in Dutch and in English!
  • You can now add your own music to the game by placing the files in the Data/music folder
  • Added a song written for Sokoban 3D
  • Created an installer using Inno Setup
  • Improved memory management
  • Improved level loading
  • General bugfixes

Beside of that, the Sokoban 3D website is now accessible from http://www.sokoban3d.com.

Furthermore, if you want to write a language pack please read the FAQ for a how-to and mail the pack to me! All help is welcome!

The new website
is finally published. In my opinion, this looks much better than the previous site! It is still under construction, so not every page will work in the first weeks. Furthermore, note the new Sokoban 3D logo!

Sokoban 3D
has won the public award in the Capgemini finals. The public found Sokoban 3D the best project. I am very happy with this result, because I see it as an acknowledgment that my project is good.

The prize is 2000 euros. Half of the money is going to my school, the other half is for myself. As you can imagine, I am very happy with this too!

Furthermore I want to congratulate the project GameDesigner, for they won the jury prize.
