KPilot
KPilot History
KPilot has a long history. It's gone through many, many, many version numbers. Sometimes numbers have hung around for a long time (4.3b comes to mind), leading to a lot of confusion just what each different version does. This page attempts to document that, just a little. It takes its information from the ChangeLog.
KPilot 5.x
2006
The KPilot 5 series will start when the first release is made out of the new SVN repository.
KPilot 4.x
2005-07-21
This is the same version that will be released with KDE 3.4.2. Unfortunately, the version that is released with KDE 3.4.2 reports version 4.5.2 (kind), but it is really 4.5.3 (peuter) (more about the version number incident...). Only a couple of bugfixes in this version that weren't in KDE 3.4.1, including a memofile conduit bug that caused data loss.
2004-10-11
This is post-KDE 3.3.1, after a two-week bout of fairly active bugfixing. Memos sync properly again, but the timezone problem may not be resolved yet.
2004-03-29
There as been some code restructuring, and a lot of work on the config wizard and the config dialog, finally making it something worth looking at or using. Work towards hotsync working sensibly progresses.
2004-03-01
Updated version to get out of the way of advancing version numbers in _BRANCH.
2004-01-18
Merged the results from the (hightly productive) Osnabrück PIM meeting into the main tree. There were conduit improvements and lots of work on the config dialog, as well as general porting to KConfigXT and KCMDialog.
2004-01-26
This is what went out with KDE 3.2. It's missing a lot of work that went into 4.4.1 (that couldn't be used because of the feature and string freeze). I'd give this one a miss if at all possible.
2003-08-26
End of the line for 4.3, this tried to fix some encoding issues and hung around for too long while we worked on 4.4.0.
2003-02-26
Small maintainence release, fixes some build errors in KDE 3.0. No stunning changes. This is pretty much what ended up in KDE 3.1.1.
2003-02-06
This was KPilot as of february 6th, 2003. It's been released as tarballs, and not yet included in any official KDE release. Features: Support for non-latin1 Palm Pilots. Better log tailing. Support for Pilots with password set.
Released with KDE 3.1, I think.
In here there was lots of activity. After all, KDE made it from 3.0.2 to 3.0.5 and even 3.0.5a (after the release of KDE 3.1). In all this time, KPilot stuck with only a few version numbers. I think it stagnated a little.
Released with KDE 3.0.2.
A bump in the version number, but I don't know what to.
2001-10-16
Way back then, the KNotes conduit was new, kpilotTest was pretty new, and I was working on reoganizing the source into a lib/ directory. KDE 2.2.x compatibility was still important to me.
2001-06-15
KDE 2.2 was still alive then. The abbrowser conduit was renamed to KAddressBook conduit. Palle Girgensohn and Philipp Hullmann sent in patches. Marko Grönroos was working on the popmail conduit.
KDE 2.2a1 release. Switched the icons to .pngs, woo-hoo.
I can find it mentioned in the archives of the kpilot-list, in march of 2001, so it must have been around then.
KPilot 3.x
KPilot 3.x never really left the beta stage - like so much Open Source software.
This was the last of the long 3.1 series of betas. KPilot quietly renumbered to KPilot 4 for KDE 2.
KPilot 1.x and 2.x
Gosh, this is really ancient history. I wasn't around then. Maybe Dan remembers what KPilot was doing back then, or some CVS diver can look it up.
The KPilot site is valid XHTML most of the time. The CSS for the site is tested with recent versions of Konqueror. I know that IE has a lot of trouble doing the right thing with this site - provide patches if you feel it is important.
